Teaching

I have been working with children, teenagers and adults for more than ten years in a variety of settings. I taught at a number of schools and ran a home studio in Western Australia before returning to Ireland in 2010. I currently teach Voice at The Peter Dee Academy of Music in Limerick City and the Mid-West Vocal Academy in Lisnagry Co Limerick.

I am a qualified Secondary School Music Specialist and I have conducted a number of School Choirs as well as an Adult Community Choir. I completed my Secondary School teacher training at the University of Western Australia in 2009 where I was the recipient of the Blue Family Trust Prize in Education. This prize was presented to the Top Student in Teaching Practice elements of the Grad Dip Ed cohort of students.

I have been working with Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath since 2013 as a Kodaly Practitioner and Choral Specialist. I teach musicianship to Primary School children in a number of schools in Co Offaly. Choirs and group singing play a major part in music making for MGOW. I have participated annually as a tutor for our Singfest event. I have also worked as a conductor for Birr Young Voices as part of our collaboration with Birr Festival of Voice.

2020 saw us exploring the potential of Online group singing. I was delighted to be part of Summer Voices, a highly successful summer school of song writing and choral singing. This three day event was a collaboration between Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath, Music Generation Louth and Sing Ireland

Online Lessons

Online lessons have proven to be very effective for voice students and professionals. My students have commented that they were pleasantly surprised at how much they had achieved during achieved their online lessons. They found that their focus, engagement and momentum had actually increased.

Some Benefits of online lessons

  • Learn from your own home; in your own space, at your own pace

  • Avoid travel times and rushing to get from A to B

  • Record your lesson to watch back later

  • Become more familiar with singing in front of a camera

Take the first step

Taking the first step towards your singing goals can be very daunting. Our voice is our primary instrument of communication and is an integral part of our personal and cultural identity. You may have always longed for an opportunity to enhance your self confidence and assurance. Singing lessons can go a long way in helping you to acquire some essential skills in this area and to aid in vocal presentation and projection.

Equally, you may be an experienced singer wishing to further develop your technical skills, to discover new aspects to your voice, and to challenge your range and add to your vocal tool kit.

  • Explore your vocal potential

  • Identify your goals

  • Build your self confidence

  • Trust your abilities

  • Achieve your objectives

Continued Learning

I believe that we should never stop learning. There is always new or different way of looking at things. As well as the Continued Professional Development opportunities that we undertake as Music Generation practitioners, I make it my mission every summer to undertake some CPD in areas that interest me as a musician, vocalist and teacher. It always helps to broaden my awareness and this inevitably trickles down to my students. 2020 was a particularly fruitful year for CPD opportunities. The global network of knowledge seemed to take the time to connect and learn from each other.
